Hello everyone!

We're still here, we haven't left, nothings changed and we still miss Squash.

Positive thinking is what we need right now so lets look at some:

  • We are eagerly awaiting news from England Squash on when we can reopen and start playing again. As we have mentioned before, things will be different when we return and we ask that you be patient and accepting of new protocal that will inevitably have to be put in place when we return to the courts. You can follow news on this via the England Squash COVID-19 hub: www.englandsquash.com/covid19

  • The school have agreed to allow Squash members to play Tennis whilst we are waiting for Squash facilities to reopen. The cost is £5 per court. If you have any issues with this please contact Ed Moore at ejmoore@shrewsbury.org.uk.

  • It's summer so warm weather is surely going to brighten our spirits? Nothing to do with Squash but it's a positive.

  • After 3 months of working from home and home schooling my 7 and 13 year old, I now know all of my times tables again, have made more art projects than Blue Peter has in it's entire existence, can spell pretty much any 6 letter word confidently, have mastered the art of holding a work conversation on the phone whilst simultaneously giving a look to my kids that says be quiet or no devices and I now know where everything is my home. No more man scans needed, straight to it.

There is sure to be plenty more positives but I don't want to put you on too much of a high. Lets chuck some negs in to make us feel more grounded:

  • I have no idea what I will be like playing Squash after lockdown. Will I even be able to hit the ball? Which end of the racket do I hold? I do genuinely think about how different it will be, but then surely it's the same for everyone?

  • I'm terrible with names, always have been, always will be. My wife thinks I'm rude but it's not that I don't care, it's just that I remember faces and details better than names. This being the case I will probably just say hey how's it going when I see all of your lovely faces, I'll then hope someone else near by says your name (Dan for example) and then I can be all like hey Dan, what's up Dan, Dan!, so Dan how's it been for you? etc etc

  • Court Bookings: We're all going to have to be patient and accept that everyone will want courts like they wanted toilet paper 3 months ago. It will be like ticket scouts on Ebay. I've got a 7pm Court going on Tuesday, I'll bid £100 and lose. It won't last though and then we can all go back to talking about how busy it is and yet Saturday night will be completely free with no one playing?? Yeah we know.

  • Slippery hands excuse: We'll have to be expected to wash our hands more when entering and leaving the courts. I bet it won't be long before someone loses a point and blames the antibacterial hand gel causing their racket to slip.

I thinks that's enough now. As you can see dangerous things happen when I don't have actual news to report. I spam the keyboard with ...well spam I guess.

Keep positive and keep checking your emails for actual news on when we can reopen, which we hope will be soon.

Take care, keep safe

Scott
