Hi everyone

Has anyone noticed the ball isn't flying around the courts like it used to? Yep it's gone cold. My months of hitting the ball and watching it fly around like I hit it at 150mph are over. It's cold and that means more time for stretching before and after games and more running on the court to catch a slightly slower ball.

You know it's gone cold when people start shouting in the courts about shots they have been playing for the last 3 months that worked a treat but now hit the tin or arent getting the length they used to. That and the fact that you can see steam coming off you when you walk back to your car.

Anyway we want to start off by talking about the Leagues. Results for the club as of 31.10.18 can be found below. So far we are 2nd in Division 1, Mid table in Division 2 and 1st in Divison 3. A good start all round. There have been some very close games with the difference only coming down to a couple of points.

Elaine Radcliffe was kind enough to write a report for SSC D and C team:

3 matches into the season has produced mixed results for SSC D team, kicked off by a tough away match against Brookside was the opener for the season. With the team Capt away, Richard Ewels stepped into the team line up with success, followed with another tough win by wily Chris Ferriday. The score lines reflect the close losses at seed 1 and 3 - Paul Dixon and Nigel Jackson, with a nail biting 5 setter had by Dan Jackson who was just pipped to the post by his oppo for Brookside to come away with the win.

Lilleshall at home proved an easier affair, with the team Capt back in the hot seat, intimidating her opposition to cede the 3rd game for her first season win. Stalwart Chris at 3 faced down his opposition in 4 games, whilst Nigel took his win in 3. Dan at 5 was determined to get a workout, stringing his match out to triumph in 5 games with a score of 19-17 in the 5th . Lilleshall was left with only Tim Collins who just managed to take the win off Paul Dixon in an evenly fought 5-setter to redeem a match for his team.

Lastly was Shrewsbury SRC C, with Chris out with injury, Richard again stepped up to the plate with an easy victory at 5. Dan showcased a dazzling array of shots to drop and drive his way into victory in 4 games only. Unfortunately that was the last of the success, with Nigel unable to overcome his opponent losing in 3. Paul Dixon determinedly pulled out all stops to cling on until the 5th game for points, whilst the Capt, although scraping 1 game in, was outhit into defeat.

So far 1 win out of 3 with another opportunity against the unpronounceable Llanfyllin away next week.

METAFIT NEWS!

We will be holding a METAFIT session on a Sunday club night. The date will be confirmed later by email but it will be an opportunity for club members to come and try a session for FREE!! More details will follow but keep checking your email inbox for details on when it will be held and try your best to come down. You have nothing to lose, not even your pennies!

JUNIORS

Closed county coming up - The next big exciting event for juniors of all ages is the Shropshire County Championships. This will be held on the 15th December with an after event Christmas party. There will be competitions in under 11, 13, 15, 17 and under 19 for both girls and boys. We hope that as many juniors as possible will enter, please see the advertising posters, or ask one of the coaches, for details on how to enter - this will need to be done via the England Squash website. Entries close on 1st December.

Squads for intercounties - Next month sees players from the club taking part in the north of England round of the intercounty championships. This is held over 2 days at the National Squash Centre in Manchester. Good luck to the girls and boys representing the county this year!

New junior coaches - Congratulations to the latest additions to the coaching team. Alistair Perkins and Becky Wright have successfully passed their Level 1 coaching award. They completed their course on Saturday 27th October (yes, they are so dedicated they missed the awesome Squashaween party) and now we are looking forward to seeing them on court passing on their skills and making Saturday mornings even more fun. Well done Becky and Ali!

NEW PRO COACH BOOKING PROCEDURE

As most of you will be aware we our new Club Pro Miles Jenkins has been coaching over the last month. To make things simpler there is a new booking procedure in place. From now on if you want a session with Miles please contact him directly. He will then add your name onto the My Courts system and you will have full visability of when your session is. The old fashioned way of writing on paper downstairs will no longer be used so please make sure if you want a session to contact Miles directly. You can see what sessions are free via My courts and request an available slot with Myles. If anyone has any questions or queries about this then please speak to a committee member.

CLUB NIGHT TO REMAIN ON A SUNDAY

We emailed everyone a few weeks ago asking for your participation in a survey about changing the day that club night is held. The stats can be seen below and as you can see the majority vote went for Sunday to remain as Club Night.

NEW GUEST FEES

It has been decided by the committee that members can now book up to 3 court sessions free for guests. We ask that all members treat this new ruling fairly and amicably. If anyone has any concerns or questions about this please speak to a committee member.

NOVEMBER LEAGUES

The Leagues for November are now available via the website. We always try to minimise the number of 6 player tables but we have had to add a few more to accomodate 9 new players coming back into the leagues this month.

The club is holding a ‘Racketball’ evening for your enjoyment!
MIles Jenkins (club pro-coach) will be available and the aim is to get as many folks playing as possible.
