There’s a Wolf coming to Shropshire

"Nick Matthew, the most successful English professional squash player of all time is
coming to Shrewsbury on the 15th September 2018. Hosted by the Shropshire
Squash Club, which is located on the grounds of Shrewsbury School, he’ll be
showcasing his talents and promoting the sport throughout the day"

This is a short extract of what the media has been sent about the upcoming event at the club. The full article is available to interested members via Carl carlotti63@aol.com who is kindly working with the media on behalf of the club.

When we have firmed up the itinerary with Nick, we will be following this up with another article to again promote squash and the club. We hope as many members will attend the event as possible and further details will be released around Mid July.

Shirl is also looking for more pub quiz participants on the 14th September event night. We already have 5 teams and if you want to join in please email her. shirlbarre@gmail.com

Gibraltar Touring Party make it through to Semi Finals!

Report from Guy

“The Annual Club Tour has had a successful conclusion with Alexey Golovatyuk and Guy Rutter reaching the Semi Finals of the Vintage (0.50s) Event in The Gibraltar PSA Open. Also Elaine Radcliffe (playing in the Army touring side) at the time of writing is in the Ladies Open and B Category Semis. The week in the sun started with excellent flights and continued with top notch hotel accommodation and good food at the Caletta Palace Hotel.
Guy and Alexey, with ever supportive (and long suffering!) wives Fiona and Tanya, quickly sorted out their accommodation so they could get to the Squash Courts and start to acclimatise to the heat. The Gibraltar Squash Association Club, Chairman and members were very welcoming and invited both to play that evening in their annual match vs the Army touring side. Alexey managing a well deserved 3-1 win whilst Guy lost in a tight battle 3-1. Several beers and an amazing BBQ finished off that evening.
Monday saw our heroes playing in the C category PSA pre-qualifiers! Alexey battled through coming back from 2-0 down to wear down his opponent and so go through to the next round with a great 3-2 victory. Guy played a tricky local player but managed a solid 3-1 win to also go through. Over the next few days Alexey continued his winning ways getting through to the B Category Semi Finals before bowing out against a very experienced player. Guy likewise some good games winning through to the ‘Vintage' quarter finals coming back from 1-0 down to finally take the match 3-1. Guy’s semi final opponent and No.1 seed was too good for him and he finally lost 3-0.
A great tour with plenty of Squash and really good meals and company throughout … where to next!?”
