RE:SSC November Copper Event

[image] [image]

On Sunday 17th November, Shropshire Squash Club hosted an England Squash Copper tournament, sponsored by two local businesses: Hometyre and Beauty by Sarah. These are events aimed primarily at players new to the tournament circuit or those who have only played a few such tournaments. Traditionally they also attract some local players of all levels. The event successfully included 30 young squash players from mostly Shropshire; a number also coming across the border from Powys, others from places further afield such as Cheshire and Leicestershire. All the boy's categories U11, U13, U15, and U17 had good numbers as well as the Girls U15s. We are hopeful we can attract players in the Girls under 11s, 13s and 17s in March 2020 when we host the Shropshire County Closed tournament.

U11 boys played a round robin with 3 entrants, the results were: 1st Joe Morris, 2nd Ethan Willis 3rd Max Short.

U13 boys had 9 entrants: 1st place going to Billy Schur, 2nd George Allison, 3rd Tom Willis

U15 boys also had a good entry with 8 competitors: 1st place Sebastian Jamson-Smith, 2nd Jaydan Ingram, 3rd Kieran Sievers

U17 boys was also a round robin system with 6 entrants: 1st place went to Ben Woodhouse, 2nd Dan Jones, 3rd Finley Aimer

U15 girls also used the same system with 5 entrants: 1st place going to Izzy Wase, 2nd Izzy Parry, 3rd Aimee Slater.

Overall it was an extremely successful day. A big thank you our sponsors Hometyre and Beauty by Sarah Hometyre and Beauty by Sarah for supporting this event and helping to improve the experience for players and supporters alike. All entrants and parents enjoyed the competition with some excellent squash being played. We look forward to a similar entry for the boys and would encourage more girls when we host the Shropshire County Closed 15th March 2020. Watch this space for entry details.
