Renewals, Commonwealth Games & Ladies Squash Update

Hope you are keeping well.

Please note that memberships for 2022/23 are now up for renewal. These should be completed before 14t August. We also have a waiting list of people waiting to join the club, so make sure you complete you can play your sport all year by renewing using your Mycourts login.

A few friendly reminders - Please can all members ensure they play in clean trainers - walking from the car to court in dirty trainers and then playing is simply not on - we have found gravel and dirt on courts recently and this can only be from members.

Please also check all windows and the internal bar doors of you are the last member to leave the club - the windows have been left open a number of times recently in the warm weather.

Over the last few weeks we have been hosting a number of events to celebrate the appearance of squash at the Commonwealth games. On the 16th and 18th July we partnered with Shropshire Squash, Shrewsbury Squash Club and Castle Country Club to promote squash locally around the Quarry during the Lets Rock Shrewsbury and Commonwealth Games batton relay events. We have been able to do this by collectively contributing to the cost of a mini-squash (4m x 3m) court. We also had Ben Schur, Cameron Parry, Fin Aimer and a number of coaches do work with schools in the area which saw over a thousand school children try squash for the first time

As a follow up to this we have the following events at the club:

Squash Commonwealth Games Final - 3rd August from 4pm

We will be showing the finals of the commonwealth games singles events from Birmingham on our projector big screen. There will be light refreshments and the bar open.

Junior Commonwealth Games Party - 6th August Morning

Fun event for junior members of SSC and SSRC - Please contact Ben for more information.

Shropshire Squash Junior Open Day - 6th August 12pm till 3pm

We invite juniors who are interested in trying squash. Maybe they have played on the mini squash court already to take part in our open session. Come down and try squash. If you know anyone who may want to try please encourage them to come down. We will have coaches on hand to give tips and coaching.

Shropshire Squash Adult Open Day - 7th August 4pm till 6pm

We invite any adults who are interested in trying out squash to come down to the club. All abilities welcome. We will have coaches on hand to give tips and coaching. We will also have light refreshments. Please contact Max on 07859123417 for queries. If people are keen to play but can't make the date - also get in touch. We want to hear from you.

On a positive, we would like to congratulate Rebecca Wright who is volunteering at University of Birmingham for the squash part of the Commonwealth Games. If you have tickets for any of the matches make sure you look out for her.

Ladies Updates

Monthly Pizza & Prosecco Nights
Continue to be a hit with members and guests. With Shrewsbury Squash & Racketball Club offering these the first Friday of the month, while ours continue to be on the third Friday, which gives plenty of opportunity for part timer and new squash players to get involved. Forthcoming dates for us are:

21 October
18 November

New Women’s Squash League
Whilst some of our women and girls are joining in the internal club leagues, we are now also offering a women’s league each month. In June we had 8 players over two leagues whilst this month we have 6 in one league. There is no age limit (although 2 may be a little young).
