Severn Hospice event - 28th December

Dear Members,

Hope you are all well - Please ignore the previous email that was sent out in error from 2022.

Just a friendly reminder about the annual charity event raising money for Severn Hospice on Thursday 28th December from 1.30pm to 7pm. This event is open to members and non-members to help us raise money for this very worthwhile cause, as well as try to run off a little of the Christmas exces. It is also an opportunity to remember those people who we have lost from the squash community over the years, and catch up with the ones very much still with us!.

I am sure many of you are aware of the wonderful work that the Severn Hospice does, but just in case you are not, click on the following link to find out a little more

https://www.severnhospice.org.uk/about-us/

The bar will be open with the usual liquid refreshments, once you have had enough running and sweating, or simply to help the conversation along or simply make the viewing easier, and you will be able to donate with cash or through the SumUp machine for those of you who have gone totally cashless!!
We are running a raffle, and asking if people can bring along a bottle on the day if they can, or maybe an unwanted box of chocolates and yes, I know that they are all wanted, but we know we shouldn’t eat them all and what better way to remove the temptation than to donate to a worthy cause and have a chance of winning them back!! Or maybe a Christmas gift that wasn’t exactly on the wish list, we all get them!!

We have already had some amazing donations of a signed pair of goal keeping gloves from Joe Hart, a couple of fitness watches, squash rackets, car key protection pouches and gloves which we are very grateful for. When you arrive please give any donations to Vanessa Dee who will be sorting the raffle.
As court pressure increases there will be a system to ensure that everyone gets time on court in a (relatively) orderly fashion, and spends an appropriate time per visit - maybe a single game to 15 for example, and I hope that you all take the opportunity to take on someone you may not normally get to play, or even know, as well as the old faithfuls. Maybe give racketball a go if you have only played squash before. I’ll assume that there are not many that only play racketball and haven’t played squash before - although some of you avid racketballers might want to have have a little trip back to the ‘light’ side ;-)

I will be sending a poll out on WhatsApp to try to get a band of volunteers together for the evening to man the bar. Just a half hour slot is all that I need from 11 wonderful people, and what better way to spend your time than dazzling the clientele with your charm and whit and maybe introducing yourself to people you haven’t formally been introduced to before.

If there are any questions or suggestions myself, Max or Vanessa will be only too pleased to try to answer them, so please drop us a line.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day, in whatever capacity you feel comfortable with. Remember if you can’t attend on the day but you still wish to donate, you can do so directly via their website https://donations.severnhospice.org.uk/ or through the sump machine at the club from tomorrow or for a time after the event.

Wishing you all happy Christmas and New Year

All the very best,

Phil Caudle
On behalf of the SSC committee
