May Newsletter

Hi Ed. Can you let me know if you're happy for the following to go out please.

Hello Everyone

I hope you've been keeping well and have maybe had chance to get down to the club and have a knock about. We appreciate that things are still not back to the way they were but with each day we are one step closer to getting there.

I know if you're reading this then chances are you like Squash, but Squash is a sport and sport is a part of life and therefore we're expanding this month's Newsletter to look at other aspects of life for our Squasharians....Yep that term is coming back.

We thought you may like to know what some of us have been up to so we have a few things to share:

  • Congratulations go out to our Head Coach Ben Schur who has continued work on his level 3. He will be joined by 4 new level 1 coaches for this summer including our club captain Max, who will be looking forward to supporting the Ladies Squash, Squash X and Junior programmes later in the year.

  • Tracy WP and family decided to get a lockdown puppy and now have a 16 week old Welsh border collie called Billie - known on the nearby field as “a girl called Billie”. Billie has a lovely nature, is very friendly and full of energy. Her favourite games include fetching the frisbee, rounding up balls and frisbees and playing football. Billie is a quick learner and looking forward to her imminent puppy training course where she can show off. Tracy is looking forward to long runs with Billie in the future.

  • I've continued my Triathlon Training and been fortunate enough to become affiliated with the 80/20Endurance Team based in the US. If anyone wants some fitness training tips for Running, Swimming and Cycling plans then feel free to drop my a line and I can share the 80/20 Principal with you. It's honestly changed my life and I'm really grateful to be part of their team for the 2021-2022 Season.

  • I'm also fundraising for an Ironman Triathlon I'm competing at in September this year. This comprises of a 2.4 mile swim - 112 mile cycle - 26.2 mile run. I'm raising money for Harrison's Fund which is a charity that helps those who suffer with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It's a massively underfunded genetic disorder that needs every penny it can get. If you have 5 minutes please check out my fundraiser page on Just Giving: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/scott-bass

Squash News:

  • Junior Squash is now up and running and super busy with over 40 student training Saturday 09:00-12:00.
  • England Squash have detailed their Back to Squash Timeline. See below for details:

  • If you follow the Professional Squash Association then the next big tournament to look out for is the EL GOUNA INTERNATIONAL SQUASH OPEN. This is on May 20th - 28th in Egypt. I always find watching the pros a great way to learn and develop my own game. I like to watch a match and then pick something out that I felt worked well and is something I need to work on and then introduce it to my game. The latest thing I tried with this was winning but I haven't got the hang of it yet. May just stick to footwork and ghosting sessions.

That about wraps up May's Newsletter. Not a lot going on but hey, we're here, you're there and at some point we'll be together.....Some serious philosophical insights going on this month. Take it easy Squasharians!
